New Epson WF 3620-can't print-cannot find printer....

Ok. Here's the deal. I have an HP 6700 that was working and then stopped working a few days ago. It had to do with the wifi-no matter what I did, the error message was that printer was not connected/couldn't be located. Ok. So I got a new printer thinking it was something internal that went belly up with the wifi signal.

The new printer arrived today. It's an Epson WF 3620. Set it up per instructions. And this one won't print either! Same error message. The control panel says the network is setup and all is fine. EXCEPT I can't print.

I downloaded the Epson app so that I can print from my iPhone and iPad. The app cannot find the printer. I downloaded Epson Connect to set this all up and it can't find my printer.

I will say that when I go to the control panel on the Epson printer to the Wifi Wizard it lists 2 networks with the same name for my network. I am wondering if this has something to do with it. I don't know why it's listed twice-it's only listed once in Network.

I don't know what is going on. I uninstalled the Epson software and installed it again. Did the same for the HP. Same issue.

If I go to the control panel on the printer (both the Epson and HP) and set up the wifi again (changing nothing), it will print once from my MBP. Just once. Then if I need to print again I have to go through the control panel again and then it will print. Once.

Not sure if this is the right forum to post this-maybe I should post in the Networking forum. I sure hope someone can help me out with this issue. Not being able to print is a pain!

Oh, the only thing that I can think of that is different with my set up is that I recently added a Transporter Sync.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for any help! Judy

On the printer, go to Settings, go to "Wi-Fi Direct Setup", then "Connection Setup", If you already have setup a password for this before, just click on "Proceed".

If this is the first time, choose "Change Password" and you make a password for this. Take note of this password. This will be the only password you'll use to be able to connect to AirPrint. Afterwards, it will give you an SSID to which you will connect to using your password. Everytime you want to wirelessly print, you have to do the following once you already have the password:

  1. "Wi-Fi Direct Setup"
  2. "Connection Setup",
  3. "Proceed"
  4. And on your wireless device or phone, connect to the Wi-Fi/SSID given on the printer's screen and use the password you have set. Then you can start printing.

You will have to always connect every time to wirelessly print.

Based on that info, please give us More! Do you have a Service-Provider router/modem AND a second router, like Airport or some other?

Please tell us the IP addresses of the printers and the transporter and your Mac. Important - your local network has IP addresses in the local-reserved address range(s) - you can safely tell us IP addresses that begin with 192.168, or 10.0. or 172.x - because no one can get into your "local net."

Oh ok. I don't have a second router. The only router I have is an ASUS. I have a Time Capsule but don't use that as a router-just for Time Machine backup.

The printer's IP address is: 192.168.1.26. The Transporter Sync's IP address is: 192.168.1.58. My MBP's IP address is: 192.168.1.204.

I just noticed something-I went into the ASUS control panel to get those IP addresses and there are 2 SSID's listed. One is for the 2.4mhz and one is for the 5mhz. Could this be the problem?

Please let me know if you need more IP addresses or whatever..... Judy

Hi greg-I called ASUS to ask them and they said yes, that's fine (the 2 networks) but beyond that he couldn't help me because they don't 'support' any other operating systems than Windows. That really makes me see red.... Well, that's that.

I have been on the phone 3 times with Epson (they don't have a toll free number for technical support....). The only way I can add this printer to our network is by adding in the IP address otherwise it is not seen.

I can't get AirPrint to work at all.

I updated the firmware.

I will try your suggestion although I have restarted the modem a couple of times and deleted the printers.

Could the Transporter Sync be interfering I am wondering. I can unplug that and see but it was such a pain to setup I hate to do it. But it is the only new addition recently to my IT setup.

Generic troubleshooting/repair steps to try:

1. Reset Printing System:

OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system

(try adding after that)

2. Repair your hard drive using Disk Utility after starting from Recovery Partition:

Read the first paragraph about Recovery:

OS X: About OS X Recovery

Try adding the printer now.

Last option - reinstall OS X using the recovery partition.

Well, Greg... I give up. I tried everything you listed above and still have the same issues. One thing-on the webpage for my printer using the IP address it says that the DNS Host Name Status is Failed. Same for the DNS Domain Name Status. Register the network interface address to DNS is checked Disable. I don't have anything listed for the Subnet Mask... I manually entered the IP Address and the Default Gateway.Proxy Server Setting is checked to Do Not Use. Does any of this matter? I checked all that were checked Disable to Auto. It says that the 'it' is restarting communication.

Maybe the Yosemite will fix my problem....

I turned off Microsoft Network Sharing.... On the same IP Address website for the printer, under Printer Info down at the bottom is says File Sharing: Disable. Could that affect the function of the printer? I am really grasping at straws here.... After tweaking a little bit, the DNS Host Name Status is now Successful. DNS Domain Name Status is still Failed.

Ok. Maybe some progress. If I try to print a page (like this page) the printer is now listed in Printer & Scanner under Default. The name is Epson WF-3620 Series 2. Location is the IP Address. Use-I have a choice: Secure AirPrint, AirPrint or Epson WF-3620 Series. I can also select the software.... Hmmm.... What do I want to choose? Do I need to set up a separate Use for AirPrint? If I select Auto Select it chooses AirPrint.
